VGA Staff

Vic Gutman, President

Since founding VGA in 1978, Vic has worked on more than 100 events including the 300th anniversary celebration for the City of Detroit (Detroit 300), the Detroit Festival of the Arts, Omaha 15O! Omaha's Birthday Celebration and the Holiday Lights Festival, as well as founded the Omaha Summer Arts Festival and the Omaha Farmers Market.

In addition to managing public events, Vic provides nonprofit management and consulting and has helped a variety of organizations achieve their internal and external objectives. Current clients include The Rose Theater, Omaha Police Foundation, Girls Incorporated of Omaha, Building Bright Futures Early Childhood Services, and the Omaha Public Library Foundation. Vic received an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and a law degree from Creighton University.



Elizabeth Balazs, Vice President

Elizabeth joined VGA in 1993 after eight years of working with major national events including the Fiesta Bowl and Grand Prix Association of Long Beach.  At VGA she has managed a wide range of events including the Omaha Summer Arts Festival, Omaha 15O! Omaha's Birthday Celebration, Zoofari '07, Westfair and Mutual of Omaha's Wild About Omaha Weekend. In addition to working on most of VGA's major events, Elizabeth assists with administrative duties including HR, special projects and company planning.  Elizabeth graduated with a BS in Marketing from Arizona State University and has pursued a BA in Secondary Education, as well as an MA in Communication from University of Nebraska Omaha.

Mindy Nickla, Marketing Manager

Mindy has managed the marketing and public relations for a wide range of events including Omaha 150! Omaha's Birthday Celebration, Nebraska Lewis & Clark Bicentennial Celebration, Holiday Lights Festival, Omaha Summer Arts Festival, and Omaha Farmers Market.  She currently manages marketing activities at The Rose Theater where she is responsible for planning and implementing the organization's promotional campaigns.  Mindy graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a degree in public relations.

Heidi Walz, Operations Manager

Heidi has been Project Manager or Operations Manager on numerous events including Omaha 150! Omaha's Birthday Celebration, Detroit / Windsor CarTunes on Parade Public Art Project, the Renaissance Faire of the Midlands, the World's Championship Chili Cookoff(tm), and Mutual of Omaha’s Wild About Omaha Weekend. Heidi currently manages the Omaha Farmers Markets in Downtown and Aksarben Village as well as the Holiday Market.  In addition, she acts as Operations Manager for the Omaha Summer Arts Festival and other special projects. Heidi received her Bachelor's degree in Organizational Communication from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Ashley McNabney, Project Coordinator

Ashley coordinated ArtSplash-Festival of the Arts and created marketing materials for the Sioux City Art Center before joining the VGA team. She now focuses her time and talents on coordinating the Holiday Lights Festival, Omaha Summer Arts Festival and Westfair, in addition to helping process the preparation of grant materials and donor stewardship packets. Ashley earned degrees in Advertising and Corporate Communications with minors in Psychology and Graphic Design from Morningside College.

Maureen Thomsen, Events Marketing Coordinator

Before joining the VGA team in June 2011, Maureen managed events and media relations at Lauritzen Gardens, Omaha's Botanical Center. She now focuses her expertise on the marketing, advertising and media relations for the Omaha Farmers Market, Holiday Lights Festival and Holiday Market among other exciting local events. Maureen graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor's degree in communications - public relations. She also received a minor in business administration.

Lisa Winton, Marketing & Development Specialist

Lisa comes to VGA from The Rose Theater, where she worked as Marketing Director for many years designing print materials, cultivating sponsorship partnerships, overseeing public relations and program ad sales, managing special events and assisting with the capital campaign and move into the historic Rose Blumkin Performing Arts Center. More recently, Lisa helped develop the Theater’s membership program, and she continues assisting The Rose with various marketing and development projects. At VGA, Lisa works on the non-profit management side of the company with clients including the Holiday Lights Festival, Youth Care & Beyond, Early Childhood Services and the Omaha Public Library Foundation. She earned a B.A. in piano with an emphasis in arts management from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Mary Hubl, Senior Writer

Mary has written hundreds of successful grants and sponsorship proposals for many VGA clients including the Omaha Theater Company, the Children's Hospital & Medical Center Foundation and the Omaha Tri-Faith Initiative.  She also has written promotional materials for numerous special events including the Omaha Summer Arts Festival, Omaha Farmers Market and the Nebraska Lewis & Clark Bicentennial Commemoration. Mary received a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and International Relations from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and Master of Arts Degree in International Politics, International Economics and Modern European History from the George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

Stacy Maddux, Project Manager

Stacy came to VGA in 1989 and has continued to provide support for a variety of projects throughout the years.  Specializing in research, event development and implementation, Stacy has worked with many of VGA's long-term projects including the Omaha Summer Arts Festival, The Rose and Westfair.  She also served as project manager for Nebraska's Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Commemoration in 2004 and the inaugural Road to Omaha Run presented by the NCAA and the City of Omaha's Parks and Recreation Department in June 2011. In addition to her work at VGA, Stacy is very involved in interactive theater in Omaha serving as president of Bad Dog Promotions.  She has experience as a Community Relations Specialist for Borders, an Events Manager at the Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Springs, California, and as an Account Executive at Culver and Associates.  Stacy earned a BFA in Theater from Stephens College.

Kathy Bradley, Development Specialist

Kathy assists Girls Inc. of Omaha and the Omaha Public Library Foundation with development and fundraising.  Her background includes professional financial management and volunteer leadership with various education organizations, and she currently serves as president of the school board for Westside Community School. Kathy received a BA from Wellesley College and an MBA from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago.

John Beecham, Writer

Since joining VGA in May 2011, John has written promotional materials for the Central High School Foundation, City of Omaha Department of Parks, Recreation & Public Property and the Heartland Walk for Warmth, and has assisted with funding proposals for The Rose Theater and Youth Care & Beyond. Previously, John wrote grants for the Omaha Creative Institute and handled social media for the Omaha Chamber of Commerce. He received an M.A. in Journalism from the University of Nebraska and a B.A. in Government from Georgetown University.

Cory McGinn, Intern

Cory joined the VGA team in early 2011 as the Summer Arts Festival intern where she was responsible for coordinating the Children’s Fair as well as the scheduling and recruitment of volunteers. She now focuses on offering support in the areas of social media, logistics, and communication to several clients including Early Childhood Services, Heartland Walk for Warmth and Food Day. Prior to joining VGA, Cory served as a Project Manager for Omaha Fashion Week. She is currently studying journalism at Creighton University.

Heidi Avalon, Accountant

Heidi has provided professional accounting services for VGA since 2004. She is responsible for all aspects of VGA's finances including payroll, client analysis reports, billing, processing disbursements and receipts and health insurance administration. In addition to her work at VGA, Heidi provides accounting services for several other clients and teaches an accounting class at Bellevue University. She earned both a Bachelors in Accounting and a Masters in Accounting from Kansas State University.
