Through a competitive bidding process, VGA was selected to manage the Nebraska Lewis & Clark Bicentennial Commemoration presented July 31-August 3, 2004 at Fort Atkinson State Historical Park in Fort Calhoun and Elmwood Park in Omaha.
VGA transformed a 10 acre-plus barren grass field at Fort Atkinson into a bustling, colorful encampment featuring Native American music, period entertainment, a life-size keelboat, living history re-enactments and performers from all over the country. VGA also worked with the Lewis & Clark Bicentennial Commission to present portions of an original concerto written by world-renowned composer Phillip Glass and a theatrical reenactment of the “First Council” at Omaha’s Elmwood Park.
More than 60,000 people attended a portion of this remarkable event that was considered one of the best of the 15 nationally sanctioned Lewis & Clark signature events held across the country.
In addition to planning and managing the Nebraska Lewis & Clark Bicentennial Commemoration, VGA developed and implemented a comprehensive marketing campaign which was supported by television, radio and print sponsors. VGA also assisted in the local fundraising effort to raise more than $400,000 to produce and promote this event.
Chairman, Nebraska Lewis & Clark Bicentennial Commission
“In 2004 the Nebraska Lewis & Clark Bicentennial Commission was charged with providing Nebraska and surrounding states a Commemoration of the Lewis & Clark Epic Journey. Vic Gutman and Associates were true partners with us in this event and were involved in the planning and execution of every element. The talented, professional and hard-working staff at VGA, were a pleasure to work with and it can honestly be stated that we couldn't have produced this extraordinarily successful Commemoration without them.”
